Super Cow: The Next Big Meat?

Some high-tech cow breeders are now using selective breeding to produce cows that have enormous muscle mass. To create these cows breeders use artificial insemination to produce animals that have an extra copy of the gene that regulates the growth of muscles–which is turned off. These Belgian Blue cows weigh over a ton and contain lean muscle mass. According to the breeders these cows are “as healthy as another intensive-producing animal.”

I can understand selecting the highest quality/healthy animals for breeding, but this just seems to take it too far. I think I’ll stick with my local farmer’s grass-fed cows. Thank you very much!
